Get to Know Your Region, part 4

We spent the last day of the sports and hiking camp getting to know the region situated west of Moldava and our first destination was Gombasek.

First, we went to the beautiful Gombasecká Cave, which is unique thanks to its thin sinter straws. Then we walked along the nature trail from the black spring and enjoyed lovely nature nooks near the stream, which took us to the travertine quarry and the white spring. From there, the trail led to the remains of the Pauline monastery and the recently renovated Andrássy mansion. There, we could see interesting exhibits and learn about the manufacturing of iron and charcoal. Our trip to Gombasek was not completed here. We went to Rožňava by bus and had a lovely lunch. We continued with an interactive exhibition in the Mining Museum in Rožňava in the afternoon. We saw some machines that were used in mining, as well as the mechanisms by which ore was transported in the past. The children enjoyed a ride in a mining trolley and they could peek in a mine to see what the work in there was like. We saw an exhibition of the nature of the Slovak Karst with various minerals, birds and forest animals in the museum. And that was the end of our program.
We got home by bus. The last day of our sports and hiking camp was over. The children really liked the program, we visited a lot of nice and interesting places and learned a lot of new information. We look forward to seeing you again on future sightseeing trips in our region.
