SPORTS AND TOURISM CAMP - DAY 4

We spent the fourth day of the camp in the fresh air getting to know the historical monuments in our surroundings. We went hiking to Turňa Castle.

We were accompanied on the way by Mrs. Helena Mackovjaková from OZ Castrum Thorna, from whom we learned a lot about the history of the castle, which became a ruin during the Estates' uprising in the 17th century, led by Thököly, when General Schultz had the castle demolished in 1685. It has been in ruins ever since. We also contributed to the restoration of the castle in our small way and brought sand along the way, which the volunteers need for its restoration. On the way we saw the protected plant Rumenica turnianska and lizards basking on the rocks. We also tried the work of archaeologists and, in addition, we also listened to „village stories about the princesses of the castle“. From the castle hill we had a beautiful view of the surrounding area.
