As part of the project „Space connects us“ - the Multifunctional Center in Moldava nad Bodvou, that connects children and youth of the minority with the majority, THE SPORTS OLYMPIC GAMES OF YOUTH FROM THE BODVA RIVER VALLEY took place in our city from June 20 - 24, 2022.
The ceremonial opening of the Sports Olympic games took place on the Main Square with the participation of city representatives, individual educational institutions, city organizations, and especially sportsmen and sportswomen from schools from Moldava and the wider area. After a short cultural program presented by Zumba girls from the Primary School ČSA 15 from Moldava nad Bodvou and majorettes from Košice, the symbolic lighting of the Olympic flame followed. Subsequently, the procession of athletes moved to the football pitch in Moldava na Bodvou, where during the week they competed in four sports disciplines: wrestling, athletics, dodgeball and football. As part of athletics, individuals tested their strength in athletic disciplines - 60 m run, high jump, standing jump (grade I.), cricket ball throw and 300 m run.
More than 500 athletes from primary schools of the Moldava town and the surrounding area took part in the Sports Olympic games – Primary School ČSA 15, Primary School Severná 21, Hungarian-speaking Primary School 15, Church United School - Boldog Salkaházi Sára Egyházi Iskolaközpont, Grammar School of Štefan Moyses, Primary School Grundschule Medzev, Primary School and Kindergarten Poproč and Primary School and Kindergarten Čečejovce.
During the competitions, there were many beautiful moments, but above all the mutual respect of the athletes and the game in the spirit of fair-play. In addition, they got to know each other and established new friendships. Many of them took home the long-awaited medals.️
Congratulations to all participants, because as they say, it's not important to win, but to participate.
This event could also be organized thanks to a project grant supported by Norway, co-financed from the state budget of the Slovak Republic and the town of Moldava nad Bodvou.
We thank the town management, the guarantor of the event, the Municipal Sports Club, as well as the Wrestling Club, the Athletic Legionary Club in Moldava nad Bodvou and all the co-organizers for their help and cooperation throughout the entire duration of the Sports Olympics.
