European Day of Languages

In 2001, the European Council declared September 26 the European Day of Languages, which has been celebrated every year by the schools in the EU member countries in the form of various events.

The „European Day of Languages 2022“ organized by the Multi-functional center for children and youth in cooperation with elementary school Severná on October 05, 2022 was one of such events.
The extensive program included language quiz taking place in the library premises, which tested the language skills of particular teams, followed by presentation of particular countries by selected students of the participating schools in English language. For example, elementary school Severná presented Spain, elementary school ČSA presented Ireland, students from the school Boldog Salkaházi Sára EgyháziIskolaközpont presented the traditions and habits of Hungary, and students from elementary school Grundschule in Medzev acquainted us with Germany. Our country, Slovakia, was also presented by the children folk band MODRANKA.
The European Day of Languages´ aim was to draw attention to the importance of learning the languages, supporting the development of multi-linguality, and language and cultural diversity.
The event also included the exhibition of T-shirts with the event theme, amongst them a few unique artworks. Our huge thanks go to all participants for excellent performance, to all pedagogues for preparation of students, and to elementary school Severná for cooperation on the event organization. We are actually looking forward to further common activities where we will have opportunity to know each other better, to accept diversity, and to be tolerant to other nations, knowing their culture and traditions.
